DeCastro will make his regular season debut Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys.|||||||
DeCastro won the job at right guard in training camp after Pittsburgh drafted him 24th, but he injured his left knee in a preseason game. He played special teams the past two weeks. Ramon Foster is moving over to the injured Willie Colon's spot at left guard to make room for DeCastro.
DeCastro's injured right knee is feeling better, and the first-round pick is optimistic he'll return at some point this season.|||||||
DeCastro underwent surgery last month to repair damage suffered when the knee buckled in grisly fashion during a preseason win over Buffalo on Aug. 25. The Steelers placed him on the injured reserve-recall list, meaning he could be activated at some point during the second half of the year.
DeCastro may be out for an extended period of time after sustaining a potentially serious right knee injury early into Pittsburgh's 38-7 preseason win over the Buffalo Bills on Saturday night.|||||||
Coach Mike Tomlin said DeCastro's injury is "potentially severe," before adding that the team will know more about the injury after DeCastro has an MRI on the knee. DeCastro was hurt while pass blocking as Pittsburgh faced third-and-8 at its 6-yard line on its second possession. DeCastro's right leg twisted beneath him after being bowled over by defensive tackle Marcell Dareus.
Steeler coach Mike Tomlin on Tuesday officially named DeCastro and Mike Adams starters for Pittsburgh's preseason opener in Philadelphia against the Eagles.|||||||
