The Giants have re-signed Carr.||||||| Carr, the former No. 1 overall pick in the 2002 NFL Draft, will again back up Eli Manning, as he has for four of the last five seasons. The backup role is somewhat ceremonial for the Giants. Manning has started 135 consecutive regular-season games, a run that started in the second half of the 2004 season.

Carr and the Giants tentatively reached their agreement last week but needed time before announcing it. It is for one year, and $925,000.||||||| Carr was Manning's backup quarterback in 2008 and `09. He played in three games the first season and in six games in 2009 and in those two seasons, he completed 33 of 42 passes (78.6 percent) for 340 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions.

The 49ers have signed Carr to a two-year deal. General manager Scot McCloughan said Monday that Carr will help provide depth at quarterback.||||||| Coach Mike Singletary has repeatedly said 2005 No. 1 pick Alex Smith is the starter, but didn't rule out signing an experienced quarterback who could push Smith and challenge for playing time. Carr, an eight-year NFL veteran, was the top draft pick in 2002 out of Fresno State. He spent the past two seasons as a backup to Eli Manning with the New York Giants.

The New York Giants re-signed Carr to back up Eli Manning at quarterback on Monday.||||||| Carr, the first overall pick by Houston in 2002, its first season in the NFL, threw only 12 passes last season, completing nine for 115 yards and two touchdowns. Most of his action came in the final game of the season in Minnesota after the Giants already had clinched the NFC's top seed.
