The star cornerback, the subject of trade rumors, has been rehabilitating his surgically repaired left knee in Arizona, but is expected to report to the team's facility in Florham Park, N.J., for the start of the Jets' offseason conditioning program next week. Jets star cornerback Darrelle Revis, the subject of trade rumors, has earned a $1 million roster bonus as a result of a clause in his contract with New York.|||||||
According to the clause, the bonus kicked in on Saturday since Revis remains on the Jets' roster - not traded or cut - at the end of the business day. There has been intense speculation over several weeks that the Jets will try to trade their best player, who is recovering from a torn knee ligament. Some believed that move could come by Saturday so the Jets could avoid the clause, but Revis' bonus counts on the Jets' salary cap, whether or not he stays on the team.
A few hours after Revis said he was "speechless" about rampant trade talk, new Jets general manager John Idzik reached out to the star cornerback Thursday to ask to "give us a chance" to evaluate the entire roster.|||||||
Idzik told NBC's Pro Football Talk on Friday that Revis "reacted well" to the phone call, which came after the GM, owner Woody Johnson and coach Rex Ryan were non-committal about the cornerback's future with the team. Revis expressed his frustration on Twitter, prompting the call from Idzik, introduced as the replacement for the fired Mike Tannenbaum hours earlier. Revis, recovering from a knee injury, is expected to draw plenty of trade interest.
