Connor has signed with the New York Giants as a free agent. The Giants announced the signing of the former Penn State product Saturday without disclosing details.||||||| Connor can play both inside and outside, so his signing casts some doubt on whether New York will bring back middle linebacker Chase Blackburn, who is a free agent.

The Dallas Cowboys have released linebacker Dan Connor and restructured the contracts of three more players, moves expected to get the team under the salary cap.||||||| Connor was one of seven free agents Dallas added in free agency last offseason. He got a two-year contract and started eight games after Sean Lee and Bruce Carter were injured.

Connor never returned after halftime of Sunday's game against the New York Giants because of a neck strain.||||||| Connor, who started in place of injured leading tackler Sean Lee, got hurt early in the second quarter. He remained down on the ground at the end of a play when the Giants fumbled. The Cowboys said Connor was out of the game.

Connor is expected to start in place of Sean Lee, who was lost for the season with a broken right toe.||||||| Connor, a free agent addition in the offseason, took most of Lee's playing time in the second half of last week's 19-14 win at Carolina. Connor is listed as a starter alongside Bruce Carter in the middle of the Dallas defense, with Ernie Sims backing him up.
