Butler was signed off the Cardinals' practice squad after splitting time this season on the active rosters of Arizona and Washington. He's appeared in eight NFL games, and was selected in the fifth round of the 2010 draft by Pittsburgh.

The move gives the Cardinals another option on their struggling offensive line, which has given up 22 sacks in the past three games.The Cardinals had released McQuistan Sept. 25 after he was inactive the first three games of the season. The 6-foot-6, 317-pound lineman is in his seventh NFL season with stints in New Orleans, Miami and Dallas.

Butler injured a hamstring in Sunday's 38-31 loss to the Bengals. He had played in two games since the Redskins claimed him off waivers on Sept. 1.

The Redskins cut their roster to 52 on Friday, leaving room to add one player. They went after Butler, who was released Friday by the Arizona Cardinals. Butler was a fifth-round draft from Clemson by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2010. He joined the Cardinals last year but hurt his ankle in the opening game and didn't play the rest of the season.
