The New Orleans Saints have placed Roby on injured reserve, officially ending his season three weeks after he suffering a concussion during a game against the St. Louis Rams.|||||||
Roby has missed the past two games since his injury, although head coach Sean Payton said last week that he had been cleared to play again. Roby had averaged 23.8 yards on 33 kickoff returns this season, with a long return of 39 yards. Running back Pierre Thomas has handled kickoff returns in Roby's absence, averaging 22 yards on seven returns.

Roby suffered a neck injury and concussion Sunday against the St. Louis Rams and was taken to a local hospital. Payton says Roby has "some soreness in his neck, but the news is good." The coach says the Saints will "see where he's at this week." Roby was injured during a scramble for the ball after he fumbled a return in the second quarter. He was taken off the field on a stretcher after about a 10-minute delay.

Roby, now in his fourth year in the NFL, signed with the Saints during the 2008 season and served as the team's primary kickoff returner for five games before his season ended with an ankle injury. He averaged 24.8 yards on 19 kickoff returns for the Saints last season. The 6-foot, 189-pound former Indiana standout entered the league as the Tennessee Titans' 2005 third-round draft choice and also has played for the Indianapolis Colts.
The Bengals signed Roby to a two-year deal on Tuesday.|||||||
The move came on the same day receiver Tab Perry was placed on injured reserve, ending his season. Roby was a third-round draft pick by Tennessee in 1005. He played in 25 games, starting six, during his career with the Titans, which ended when he was waived on Sept. 1.
