The Colts have completed a new deal to keep receiver Reggie Wayne and have signed free agent defensive end Cory Redding.|||||||
Redding will rejoin head coach Chuck Pagano, his former defensive coordinator in Baltimore, in Indianapolis. Terms of Redding's deal were not released. At 6-foot-4, 298 pounds, Redding gives the Colts a bigger defensive end -- the kind Pagano can start to build his 3-4 defensive scheme around. The Colts re-signed Pro Bowl end Robert Mathis last week and are reportedly shopping their other Pro Bowl end, Dwight Freeney.
The Baltimore Ravens and former Seattle defensive end Redding have agreed on a two-year deal. Redding was an unrestricted free agent. His best season came in 2006, when he had 16 starts and finished with eight sacks and 70 tackles. He was drafted by Detroit in the third round in 2003 out of Texas.|||||||
Redding started only three games for the Seahawks last season but has 18 career sacks over seven NFL seasons, the first six with Detroit. The 29-year-old has played in 101 games, 79 of them as a starter. The 6-foot-4, 295-pound Redding fills a void left by the departure of Dwan Edwards, who signed as a free agent with the Buffalo Bills last week.
