Ponder's strong finish to the regular season may have gone a long way toward solidifying his spot as the starting quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings. The offense's dreadful performance in the playoff game against Green Bay with him on the sideline probably didn't hurt his standing, either.|||||||
Ponder was a late scratch Saturday night because of a bruised triceps and backup Joe Webb was unable to get anything going in a 24-10 loss that ended Minnesota's surprising season. If the Vikings make any moves at quarterback, it could be to add a veteran backup to Ponder.
Ponder is inactive for Minnesota's wild-card playoff game against the Green Bay Packers because of a right elbow injury.|||||||
The surprise announcement about 90 minutes before Saturday's game means Joe Webb will start at quarterback for the Vikings. Ponder was hurt when Packers safety Morgan Burnett delivered a jarring hit on a blitz when the teams played last Sunday. Ponder finished the game with a career-high 120.2 passer rating and three touchdowns in the 37-34 win.
