Redskins coach Mike Shanahan said he'll be judicious about how he uses Cooley, who re-joined the team earlier this week.||||||| "You don't want to throw him in the briar patch too quick," the coach said.

Cooley has passed a physical exam and agreed to rejoin the Washington Redskins.||||||| Cooley's return to the Redskins on Monday comes a day after tight end Fred Davis was lost for the season with an Achilles tendon injury during Washington's 27-23 loss at the New York Giants.Cooley was released in August by the Redskins, the team he spent his entire eight-season NFL career with. He is a two-time Pro Bowl pick and his 428 catches are the franchise record for a tight end.

The Washington Post is reporting that Cooley is coming back to play for the Washington Redskins.||||||| Cooley was released before the season but, with tight end Fred Davis out for the year, the 'Skins need a tight end and will turn to the 30-year-old former Pro Bowler, according to the paper.

Redskins general manager Bruce Allen said he's left the door open for re-signing Cooley. The Redskins released Cooley on Aug. 28 after he spent eight years with the team.||||||| Cooley has caught 428 passes for 4,703 yards and 33 touchdowns in his career, including eight catches for 65 yards last season.

The Redskins released Cooley on Tuesday.||||||| Cooley said recently that he wanted to start, but that he was also at the point of his career that he wanted to win after missing the playoffs in six of his eight NFL seasons. He will have to latch onto another team.
