The Baltimore Ravens have signed Canty, who spent the previous four seasons with the New York Giants. Canty announced the signing Tuesday on Instagram with a photo of the signed contract, according to the Ravens website.|||||||
The 30-year-old Canty was released in February by the Giants. The 6-foot-7, 317-pounder was a starter the last four years in New York, but he missed seven games in 2012 with a knee injury. He finished with 26 tackles and three sacks.
The New York Giants continued their roster purge after missing the playoffs, cutting halfback Ahmad Bradshaw and Canty. The Giants announced the moves on Wednesday. The release of the two starters came one day after New York let starting weakside linebacker Michael Boley go after four seasons.|||||||
The three players were all veterans who contributed to the Giants' Super Bowl win over the Patriots a year ago. They also had big salaries and battled injuries last season. Canty, who had knee problems, was set to earn $6.5 million next season.

Canty started every game in the Giants' 2011 championship season but had offseason knee surgery and had been on the physically unable to perform list since the start of training camp.
The Super Bowl champion New York Giants have placed Canty on the reserve-physically unable to perform list. "I'm not gonna say I saw it coming," Canty said "Obviously, I was optimistic about it. I feel good, I feel in pretty good shape considering all the factors. I stand by the position my knee is better than it was November, December, January of last season."|||||||
