The Jets addressed a couple of their major needs in free agency Friday, signing wide receiver Chaz Schilens and backup quarterback Drew Stanton.||||||| The 6-foot-4 Schilens, who spent the last four seasons with the Oakland Raiders, gives New York a much-needed big and speedy target. He'll likely be given the chance to win the No. 2 starting job opposite Santonio Holmes since Plaxico Burress is a free agent and is unlikely to be re-signed. Schilens, a seventh-round draft pick out of San Diego State in 2008, has 72 catches for 902 yards and seven touchdowns.

Schilens got hurt in the preseason again, injuring his knee in the exhibition opener. Schilens will be evaluated week to week, coach Hue Jackson said Saturday.||||||| Schilens missed significant time the past two seasons after breaking his foot in practice in 2009 and having knee surgery last August.

Schilens is active and will make his 2010 debut in Sunday's game against Jacksonville.||||||| Although Schilens possesses a ton of potential, he should be left on fantasy benches until he shows that he can be productive.

Schilens is seeing a knee specialist and may need arthroscopic surgery.||||||| Coach Tom Cable made the announcement Monday about Schilens' latest injury. Cable says it likely is a result of Schilens overcompensating for his injured left foot. He had 29 catches for 365 yards and two touchdowns, but needed another operation after the season to help the foot fully heal. Cable says he hopes Schilens would be back by the opener Sept. 12 at Tennessee if he needs the surgery.
