The Jets released Pace on Tuesday.||||||| Pace, a 2003 first-round pick by Arizona, spent his first five seasons with the Cardinals before signing a six-year deal with the Jets in 2008. He had seven sacks in his first season in New York, and eight the following year, but never became the dominant pass rusher the Jets envisioned.

Pace has been fined $15,000 by the NFL for an illegal hit on Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick last Sunday.||||||| Pace slammed into Vick as he threw a 26-yard touchdown to Brent Celek in the Eagles' 45-19 victory, and was called for a 15-yard roughing-the-passer penalty. Pace told reporters Thursday he planned to appeal the fine. He told ESPNNewYork.com that he didn't read the letter sent to him from the league. "I saw $15,000 and threw it in the trash," Pace told the website. Pace, in his fourth season with the Jets, is third on the team with 81 tackles and has 4 1/2 sacks.

Pace will miss a few weeks with a broken right foot, meaning New York's top pass rusher could be sidelined for at least the first game of the regular season.||||||| Pace will have surgery Monday in North Carolina, after leaving the Jets' preseason loss to the Washington Redskins in the third quarter Friday night. Coach Rex Ryan says Sunday it's too early to speculate how long Pace will be sidelined. He says it's "safe to say" he'll be out for the opener against Baltimore. Pace led the team with eight sacks last season.

Pace has injured his foot against the Washington Redskins and could miss a few weeks.||||||| Coach Rex Ryan says Pace has "something with his foot," an injury suffered in the Jets' 16-11 loss Friday night. Pace, who led the team with eight sacks last season, left the game in the third quarter. The severity of the injury was not immediately known after the game.

The NFL suspended Pace for four games without pay Thursday for violating the league's policy on performance-enhancing substances. Pace will miss New York's first four games of the season and be eligible to return for the Monday night game at Miami on Oct. 12.||||||| In a statement issued by the Jets, Pace said the ban is a result of him taking an over-the-counter dietary supplement that he was unaware violated the NFL's Pace, in his second season with the Jets, is eligible to participate in preseason practices and games. The suspension begins Sept. 5 and he can return to practice on Oct. 5, a day after New York's game at New Orleans.
