The Broncos signed Hanie.||||||| Hanie was released in a procedural move Saturday to provide the Broncos with some financial flexibility.
Posted Sept. 08, 2012
The Denver Broncos released Hanie on the eve of their opener against Pittsburgh.||||||| The moves mean rookie Brock Osweiler will serve as Peyton Manning's backup against the Steelers. But it doesn't necessarily mean Hanie's time in Denver is over. Teams sometimes release veterans who aren't expected to play in the opener and then re-sign them the following week, saving some guaranteed salary.

A person familiar with the negotiations says the Denver Broncos have signed former Chicago Bears backup quarterback Caleb Hanie to a two-year deal to back up Peyton Manning.||||||| Hanie, 26, who played at Colorado State, spent the last three seasons in Chicago. He replaced an injured Jay Cutler in the NFC championship two years ago and nearly rallied the Bears past the Packers. But he went 0-4 in place of Cutler last season, including at loss at Denver. The Broncos signed Manning on Monday and then dealt Tim Tebow to the New York Jets. They also considered signing free agent Billy Volek.

Hanie was picked off three times for the second straight game, Sunday's 10-3 loss to Kansas City.||||||| Hanie did nothing to quiet the calls for the Bears to go after Donovan McNabb, completing 11 of 24 passes in his second start for Cutler. Besides getting sacked seven times against a team that came in with just 13, he threw three interceptions for the second straight week, and whatever chance the Bears had, basically disappeared when he got picked off in the end zone.
Posted Nov. 28, 2011
Making his first NFL start, Hanie completed 18 of 35 passes for 254 yards and three interceptions, including a crushing one late in the first half of Sunday's 25-20 loss at Oakland.||||||| With Jay Cutler possibly out for the rest of the regular season with a thumb injury, Hanie should get a majority of the snaps. He'll make his first start at Soldier Field on Sunday against Kansas City.
