McKinnie spent the first nine seasons of his career in Minnesota, immediately stepping in as the starter after ending a holdout in his rookie season that caused him to miss the first eight games. McKinnie was voted to one Pro Bowl, but never did materialize into the dominant force the team hoped for when they drafted him in 2002.

McKinnie skipped most of the team practices and obligations, and was then dismissed from the NFC all-star squad. NFL spokesman Randall Liu also said McKinnie has forfeited his $22,500 game check.
