The NFL says it is monitoring a case involving Thomas, who was arrested in October after being accused of assaulting his wife and possessing marijuana paraphernalia and painkillers.||||||| The Daily Record of Morristown, N.J., reports Tuesday that Thomas is applying for admission into a probation program that requires no admission of guilt. The newspaper reports that Thomas, scheduled to become a free agent in March, was arrested Oct. 31, according to Morristown Superior Court records. In a statement, the Jets say they are "aware of the report," and declined comment "until the legal process has run its course."

The New York Jets have released Thomas, their longest-tenured player, to make room on their roster for cornerback Donnie Fletcher, who was signed off the practice squad.||||||| Thomas was the team's first-round draft pick in 2002 and has been a key part of the Jets' defense. He missed most of last season with a torn left Achilles tendon, but was re-signed to a one-year contract in March. Thomas has been dealing with a hamstring injury the last two weeks, and was listed as doubtful for the Jets' game at Miami on Sunday. He was replaced in the starting defense by Garrett McIntyre.

He led Rex Ryan's defense with six sacks in 2010, but was placed on injured reserve last October after getting hurt at Baltimore in Week 4. Thomas, a solid but never flashy player during his career, became a free agent Tuesday and it was uncertain if the Jets would re-sign him.

The New York Jets have placed linebacker Bryan Thomas on season-ending injured reserve and signed linebacker Eddie Jones from the practice squad.||||||| The move Saturday to place Thomas on IR was expected after he tore his left Achilles tendon in the Jets' 34-17 loss at Baltimore last Sunday. Thomas was in his 10th season with the Jets and their longest-tenured player, but is due to become a free agent after this season. He led Rex Ryan's squad with six sacks last season.

The New York Jets signed defensive end-linebacker Bryan Thomas to a contract extension Friday.||||||| Thomas, the Jets' first-round pick out of UAB in 2002, is on pace for his best season. He has a career-high five sacks, including two last Sunday against Houston, and is sixth on the team with 58 tackles. Thomas is splitting time at defensive end and linebacker after primarily playing on the line his first few seasons. Thomas, who has 11 1-2 NFL sacks, was the 22nd overall pick after breaking the Conference USA record with 35 sacks.
