person familiar with the decision says the NFL will not be suspending Saints starting defensive tackle Brodrick Bunkley for his kick to the back of offensive lineman Alex Boone's helmet in the final minutes of San Francisco's 31-21 victory over New Orleans on Sunday. The person spoke to The Associated Press Monday on condition of anonymity because the league has not announced any punishment yet and a fine is still possible later in the week.|||||||
The decision not to suspend Bunkley means he can play when the Saints visit Atlanta on Thursday night. Bunkley was penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct and ejected with 1:05 left for kicking Boone after the Saints had blocked a field goal. Defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo says the play was "out of character" for Bunkley.
The New Orleans Saints and Bunkley have agreed on a five-year contract.|||||||
Bunkley spent last season with the Denver Broncos appearing in all 16 regular season games and starting 13. He was credited with 43 tackles during the regular season and also had a sack and forced fumble during the Broncos' two playoff games.
Bunkley has been traded from Philadelphia to Denver for a 2013 draft pick, two days after the Eagles agreed to send the former first-round pick to Cleveland.|||||||
Bunkley was picked 14th overall in the first round of the 2006 draft.

The extent of Bunckley's injury is uncertain, but his absence could pose a problem for the Eagles' defense. The starter will likely be replaced by Montae Reagor, who has not started a game since Oct. 8, 2006, with Indianapolis.
Bunkley had two sacks - the first of his career - a career-high four tackles and two more quarterback hits Sunday against Detroit, according to the Philadelphia Enquirer.|||||||
