Washington Redskins linebacker Brian Orakpo and strong safety Brandon Meriweather will miss the final two preseason games with injuries. Both were hurt in Washington's 33-31 loss to Chicago on Saturday.|||||||
Coach Mike Shanahan said Monday that MRIs on both players revealed good news. Orakpo has damaged some scar tissue in his left shoulder, and Meriweather has a swollen and sore left knee. Neither player will require surgery. Orakpo had surgery on the same shoulder after tearing a pectoral muscle in the final game of last season. He thought he had torn the muscle again against the Bears when he felt the shoulder pop.
Orakpo left Saturday's game against the Bears with a possible shoulder injury.|||||||
Orakpo attempted to make a lunging tackle after Devin Hester caught a pass late in the first quarter of the 33-31 loss and missed. He stayed down for a few minutes as medical staff tended to him before walking gingerly off the field. Orakpo eventually had his left shoulder wrapped on the sideline. Washington coach Mike Shanahan said Orakpo will go for an MRI.
