The Arizona Cardinals will give Hoyer his first NFL start, less than three weeks after the team claimed him off waivers from Pittsburgh. Coach Ken Whisenhunt said Wednesday that the former Michigan State quarterback will start for the Cardinals in their season finale Sunday at San Francisco.|||||||
Hoyer, who spent three seasons as a backup in New England and was out of a job for most of this season, will be the fourth starter at quarterback for the Cardinals this year, operating an offense that ranks last in the NFL.
With Ryan Lindley bench in the third quarter, Hoyer got some action against the Bears on Sunday. He completed 11-of-19 passes for 105 yards with an interception.|||||||
While it seems Hoyer has passed Lindley on the depth chart, he isn't considered a fantasy option for the offensively-challenged Cardinals at this time.

Hoyer was with the Steelers for three weeks while Ben Roethlisberger was injured. After a standout career at Michigan State, Hoyer spent his first three NFL seasons with New England before being released by the Patriots on Aug. 31.
The New England Patriots on Friday signed Hoyer, and officially announced the addition of receiver Donte' Stallworth. Terms of the contracts were not disclosed.|||||||
Hoyer, 26, has been the backup for three seasons to Tom Brady. He has played in 13 games, throwing for 286 yards and a touchdown.
