Dawkins is retiring from the NFL after 16 seasons.||||||| Dawkins posted the news on his Twitter account Monday, thanking the teams he played for, his coaches and teammates and fans. Dawkins spent his first 13 seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles and his last three with the Denver Broncos. He suffered a serious neck injury in December that sidelined him for the stretch run and the Broncos' two playoff games.

Dawkins has been added to the AFC Pro Bowl roster, although it's uncertain if he'll be able to play because of a neck injury.||||||| Dawkins missed most of the last month and both of Denver's playoff games. He has said he'll consult with his family before deciding whether to return in 2012 for a 17th NFL season, which would be a record for safeties. Dawkins was having a resurgent season under first-year defensive coordinator Dennis Allen when he got hurt in a game against Chicago.

The Denver Broncos will be without team leader Brian Dawkins in a playoff game against the Patriots on Saturday. Dawkins has been hampered by a sore neck.||||||| The 16-year veteran is responsible for the presnap defensive adjustments from his strong safety spot. Now the Broncos have to hope he will be back for a possible AFC title game next week in Baltimore or Houston.

Dawkins will miss the game Sunday against the New England Patriots with a neck injury.||||||| Dawkins was hurt while making a tackle last weekend in a win over the Chicago Bears. With Dawkins sidelined, the Broncos altered their secondary. Rookie Quinton Carter will slide over and play strong safety while fellow rookie Rahim Moore takes over at free safety.

Dawkins has left the game with a neck injury against the Chicago Bears. His return Sunday is questionable.||||||| Dawkins hurt his neck on a play late in the first quarter when he appeared to collide with teammate Robert Ayers as they tackled running back Marion Barber. Dawkins stayed down on the turf for a few minutes before walking off the field on his own.
