The San Diego Chargers have placed Bob Sanders on injured reserve with a knee injury, ending the season for the oft-injured strong safety.||||||| Sanders played in only two games with the Chargers before getting hurt. Coming into the season, he missed the equivalent of four full seasons due to injuries.

A person with knowledge of the situation tells The Associated Press that Sanders has agreed to a one-year deal with the San Diego Chargers.||||||| There appears to be some confusion over when Sanders can actually sign a contract, due to the status of labor talks. The NFL and players' union decided Thursday to keep the current collective bargaining agreement in place for an additional 24 hours so that negotiations can continue. The oft-injured Sanders, the 2007 NFL Defensive Player of the Year, was released by the Indianapolis Colts last month.

The Indianapolis Colts have released 2007 NFL defensive player of the year Bob Sanders. Team owner Jim Irsay announced the move on Twitter, thanking Sanders for his contributions.||||||| Sanders was the Colts' second-round pick in 2004 and made Pro Bowl appearances in 2005 and 2007, the same season he was voted the league's top defensive player. He signed a new five-year, $37.5 million contract after that season, but injuries limited him to only nine regular-season appearances over the next three seasons. The move was expected. Last month, Sanders' agent, Tom Condon, told The Associated Press, he "anticipated the same thing you do."

Sanders has a torn biceps tendon and is out indefinitely, if not for the season, two team sources told ESPN.com's Adam Schefter.||||||| It is not the same arm in which Sanders had the biceps tendon tear last season. He is scheduled to visit Dr. James Andrews on Wednesday to help determine how long he will be out. Sanders, the league's 2007 defensive player of the year, was injured on the Texans' first offensive series when a pass was deflected by Colts safety Antoine Bethea into Sanders' face mask.
