Hicks was released by the Washington Redskins on Saturday. The 6-foot-4, 325-pounder has played nine seasons in the NFL, making 68 starts, including 27 at left guard. The Browns have a hole at that position after losing Eric Steinbach for the season following back surgery.

Hicks signed a three-year deal Saturday that could be worth as much as $9 million. He can play guard or tackle, and the Redskins need both following the retirement of left tackle Chris Samuels and the release of right guard Randy Thomas. He has spent the last four seasons with Minnesota but has mainly been a backup, starting only 13 games over the last three years.
Hicks was inactive for Sunday's game against Atlanta with a partially torn triceps muscle in his right arm.|||||||
