San Diego Chargers linebacker Antwan Barnes has been ejected against the Oakland Raiders following an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. Barnes was leading the Chargers with 11 sacks this season.|||||||
Officials whistled Barnes for the penalty following a 27-yard run by Louis Murphy in the first quarter Sunday. The 8-yard penalty gave Oakland the ball at San Diego's 7-yard line, leading to a Raiders touchdown. He took off his helmet and was yelling back at officials on the field following his ejection. It was not immediately clear exactly why Barnes was ejected.
Barnes was fined $5,000 by the NFL on Friday for unnecessarily striking St. Louis Rams quarterback Sam Bradford in the chest and neck.|||||||

Barnes has played in 38 games in three seasons and has five sacks, including three in his last five games in 2009. "We always had our eye on Barnes, ever since he came into the draft (in 2007)," GM Howie Roseman said. "He's got rare speed, and it's hard to find guys who can consistently get pressure on the quarterback. And it goes back to our philosophy here, that we're going to make sure our defense is able to get pressure on the quarterback."
Barnes hurt his ankle Wednesday and did not practice with the Ravens, according to the Baltimore Sun.|||||||
The team does not think the injury is serious, so he should be back on the practice field soon.
