The NFL confirmed the fines on Friday. The league did not identify the plays but both probably involved Redskins tight end Fred Davis. Rolle was fined $20,000 for spearing an opponent with his helmet. Rolle was flagged for an unnecessary roughness call against Davis with roughly eight minutes left in the Redskins' 28-14 win.
Rolle has apologized for comparing fans' booing players after a bad half of football to fans booing troops returning home from Iraq after a tour of duty.|||||||
Rolle says he used a very poor, inappropriate example on Thursday to demonstrate how seriously he takes his job. "Obviously, there is no comparison between the men and women of our military putting their life on the line defending our country and what I do," Rolle said in a statement issued by the team early in the evening. "They risk their lives and that gives me the opportunity to play a game for a living."

In the waning hours of the opening day of free agency, Rolle signed a five-year, $37 million contract that has $15 million in guaranteed money. The signing fills a major need for the Giants, who lost Kenny Phillips to a serious knee injury early last season. Rolle, who was recently released by the Cardinals, had four interceptions last season.
