The San Francisco 49ers made their trade of Smith to the Kansas City Chiefs official on Tuesday, nearly two weeks after the two sides agreed to it.||||||| The 49ers will receive the Chiefs' second-round pick, 34th overall, and a conditional choice in next year's draft, a person familiar with the terms told The Associated Press. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the terms were not disclosed. Smith must still pass a physical for the trade to be completed.

Smith lost his starting job to Colin Kaepernick after sustaining a concussion Nov. 11. Kaepernick played well, and coach Jim Harbaugh stuck with him even when Smith was healthy.

San Francisco 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh is sticking with Colin Kaepernick as his starter under center - for now, anyway - as his team prepares for Sunday's home game with the Miami Dolphins. And, no, Alex Smith isn't out of this mix yet, either.||||||| A day after a 16-13 overtime loss at St. Louis, Harbaugh accepted the blame for the fourth-quarter pitch that was fumbled by Kaepernick and led to Janoris Jenkins' 2-yard fumble return for a touchdown and ensuing 2-point conversion that tied the game. Harbaugh didn't call the play, but relayed it through the headset to Kaepernick. Harbaugh says he saw positives in the way Kaepernick responded after the mistakes.

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Alex Smith has been declared out for Monday night's game against Chicago with a concussion. Team medical director Dr. Dan Garza evaluated Smith, who was hurt eight days ago against St. Louis.||||||| The 49ers will start second-year quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who replaced Smith in the 24-24 tie with the Rams last week. Smith practiced on a limited basis during the week, but could not pass tests under the NFL's concussion treatment protocol to allow him back on the field against Chicago. Smith has made 28 consecutive starts and led the 49ers to a 6-2-1 record this season. He was left midway through the second quarter of last week's tie with St. Louis.
