Kansas City Chiefs
Here are the Kansas City Chiefs top three needs going into the draft, subject to any free-agent signings it may make before then.
Chiefs re-sign DB Daniels
The Chiefs re-signed unrestricted free-agent DB Travis Daniels, the team announced Wednesday.
AFC West draft needs
With three of the division's teams having needs at defensive tackle, they're likely to be paying close attention to Memphis DT-NT Dontari Poe.
After adding offensive depth, Chiefs will draft for 'D'
The Chiefs have targeted improving their offense in free agency, which likely means they will go after defenders when it comes to the draft.
Chiefs re-sign LB Belcher
The Chiefs have re-signed ILB Jovan Belcher, who had been a restricted free agent. He will earn $1.927 million on the one-year deal.
Pioli says Chiefs made early run at Manning
Chiefs GM Scott Pioli said his team was interested in signing QB Peyton Manning, but the feeling was not mutual.
Chiefs sign OT Winston, QB Quinn
The Chiefs continue to beef up their offense, signing free agents OT Eric Winston and QB Brady Quinn on Saturday.
Chiefs sign TE Boss
After getting limited production out of their tight ends in 2011, the Chiefs have signed free agent Kevin Boss to bolster the position.
Chargers add RB McClain
Le'Ron McClain has signed with the Chargers, giving them a bigger back to presumably replace free agent Mike Tolbert.
Chiefs sign RB Hillis
The Chiefs have signed free-agent RB Peyton Hillis, the team announced on Wednesday.
Cowboys reach deal with CB Carr
The Cowboys, in desperate need of help in the secondary, have agreed to terms with former Chiefs CB Brandon Carr.
Free-agent scouting report: Chiefs QB Kyle Orton
QB Kyle Orton has both been a starter and a backup during his NFL career and could be a valuable piece to a contending team.
Manning meets with Broncos brass
Peyton Manning began his tour of NFL suitors Friday, being flown to Denver to meet with the Broncos' decision makers.

The San Francisco 49ers made their trade of Smith to the Kansas City Chiefs official on Tuesday, nearly two weeks after the two sides agreed to it.|||||||
The 49ers will receive the Chiefs' second-round pick, 34th overall, and a conditional choice in next year's draft, a person familiar with the terms told The Associated Press. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the terms were not disclosed. Smith must still pass a physical for the trade to be completed.
A person with knowledge of the trade tells The Associated Press that the Kansas City Chiefs have agreed to acquire Smith from San Francisco.|||||||
The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the trade does not become official until March 12, when the NFL's new business year begins. Smith lost his starting job to Colin Kaepernick after sustaining a concussion Nov. 11. Kaepernick played well, and coach Jim Harbaugh stuck with him even when Smith was healthy.
San Francisco 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh is sticking with Colin Kaepernick as his starter under center - for now, anyway - as his team prepares for Sunday's home game with the Miami Dolphins. And, no, Alex Smith isn't out of this mix yet, either.|||||||
A day after a 16-13 overtime loss at St. Louis, Harbaugh accepted the blame for the fourth-quarter pitch that was fumbled by Kaepernick and led to Janoris Jenkins' 2-yard fumble return for a touchdown and ensuing 2-point conversion that tied the game. Harbaugh didn't call the play, but relayed it through the headset to Kaepernick. Harbaugh says he saw positives in the way Kaepernick responded after the mistakes.
Coach Jim Harbaugh made the announcement Wednesday that Colin Kaepernick would go Sunday at St. Louis over Alex Smith after the second-year pro led the NFC West-leading Niners (8-2-1) to victories in the past two games, his first two NFL starts.|||||||
Smith, the 2005 No. 1 overall draft pick, hardly looked happy on the sideline during Sunday's win over the Saints after being medically cleared from a concussion suffered in the first half of a 24-24 tie against St. Louis on Nov. 11.
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Alex Smith has been declared out for Monday night's game against Chicago with a concussion. Team medical director Dr. Dan Garza evaluated Smith, who was hurt eight days ago against St. Louis.|||||||
The 49ers will start second-year quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who replaced Smith in the 24-24 tie with the Rams last week. Smith practiced on a limited basis during the week, but could not pass tests under the NFL's concussion treatment protocol to allow him back on the field against Chicago. Smith has made 28 consecutive starts and led the 49ers to a 6-2-1 record this season. He was left midway through the second quarter of last week's tie with St. Louis.
