San Francisco 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh says the team will likely "dodge a bullet" after linebacker Aldon Smith left Friday night's 17-6 preseason victory over the Minnesota Vikings with a bruised hip. Smith was cut down by a Vikings player while chasing running back Toby Gerhart late in the first quarter. He got up slowly, stayed in for one play and then ran gingerly to the sideline. He didn't return.||||||| Harbaugh said the 49ers were still waiting for final results from team doctors but it "looks like we'll be all right." Smith walked out of the locker room without talking to reporters. The 49ers drafted Smith seventh overall last year. He racked up a franchise-rookie record 14 sacks - best among NFL rookies - to go with two forced fumbles. Smith was the runner-up to Denver's Von Miller for the AP NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year award.

The San Francisco 49ers say linebacker Aldon Smith sustained minor injuries during an incident Friday night in San Jose and that he is recovering comfortably. A person with knowledge of the situation says Smith suffered stab wounds. The person spoke on condition of anonymity Saturday because those details had not been released.||||||| The team says it is in communication with authorities and won't comment further at this time. 49ers general manager Trent Baalke says, "We are in contact with Aldon, and thankful that his injuries were not more serious." Smith, the seventh overall pick in the 2011 draft, had a franchise-rookie record 14 sacks - most among NFL rookies last season - to go along with two forced fumbles.

San Francisco 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith has been charged with driving under the influence in Miami Beach. Miami-Dade County jail records show Smith was booked Saturday morning and held on $1,000 bond. Jail records did not show whether Smith was represented by an attorney.||||||| Smith was drafted as the seventh overall draft pick in 2011. During his first season, he had 14 sacks, a franchise record for a rookie linebacker. He also ranked 1st in the NFL in sacks among rookies.

The San Francisco 49ers announced four-year deals Thursday for Smith and second-round selection Colin Kaepernick. Under the new NFL labor agreement, there is a club option for a fifth year.||||||| Smith is expected to be San Francisco's pass-rushing outside linebacker in a 3-4 scheme. The 49ers have signed all 10 draft picks, making sure a full rookie class will be in attendance at the start of training camp.
