The Kansas City Chiefs have signed veteran Akeem Jordan to provide depth and push for playing time alongside middle linebacker Derrick Johnson. The team announced the move in a statement Monday.|||||||
Jordan has appeared in 82 games with 34 starts in six seasons for the Philadelphia Eagles, where current Chiefs coach Andy Reid had been in charge until he was fired this offseason. Jordan has made 184 tackles, two interceptions and forced two turnovers in his career.
Jordan will return to the Philadelphia Eagles next season after signing a one-year tender offer. Jordan started 10 games for the Eagles last season, recording 82 tackles and two interceptions. He took a role on the starting defense midway through the 2008 season and held it until being sidelined for four weeks with a knee injury last season.|||||||
Jordan is likely to resume his role as the Eagles' starting weakside linebacker following the release of Will Witherspoon.The 6-foot-1, 230-pound Jordan joined the Eagles as a rookie free agent out of James Madison in 2007.
