PLAYER NEWS
The New England Patriots have released receiver Brandon Lloyd and re-signed defensive backs Aqib Talib, Kyle Arrington and Adrian Wilson. The team made the announcements on Saturday.|||||||
Wilson is a five-time Pro Bowl selection who holds the NFL record for most sacks in a season by a defensive back, eight, and is the sixth player in NFL history to record 25 sacks and 25 interceptions in his career.
The Arizona Cardinals have released Wilson, a five-time Pro Bowl strong safety. Wilson, who had been the longest-tenured player on the team, took a pay cut to stay with the Cardinals before last season, but knew as it was winding down that it would be his final one in the desert.|||||||
Wilson played 12 seasons with the Cardinals and is one of six NFL players with 25 interceptions and 25 sacks. A Pro Bowler in 2006 and 2008-11, he has 27 interceptions and 25 1/2 sacks, including eight in 2005, which were the most ever by a defensive back. Wilson played 181 games with Arizona, fifth-most in team history, and was a team captain five times, including last season.
The Arizona Cardinals have signed five-time Pro Bowl safety Wilson to a contract extension that runs through the 2015 season. The deal was reached Tuesday as the team reported to its training camp in Flagstaff.|||||||
The 32-year-old Wilson had two years remaining on his contract. The new agreement reworks that deal and could pave the way for him to retire as a Cardinal. Terms were not disclosed. No one else on the Arizona roster has been with the team as long as Wilson, a four-time team captain who was a third-round draft pick of the Cardinals in 2001.

Wilson, a four-time Pro Bowler who has played all 10 of his NFL seasons with the Cardinals, chose to rehab the injury rather than consider surgery. He was injured trying to tackle Beanie Wells in practice.
Wilson has a torn right biceps tendon and will try to rehabilitate the injury to avoid surgery that would sideline him for a longer period. Coach Ken Whisenhunt would give no timetable for Wilson's return other than to say expects the four-time Pro Bowler to play this season.|||||||
Wilson didn't talk to reporters after Monday morning's practice but reportedly has told people he believes he will be ready for the team's Sept. 11 opener against Carolina. The 31-year-old Wilson, who has played all 10 of his NFL seasons with Arizona, was injured in Saturday's scrimmage while attempting to tackle running back Beanie Wells.
