Vinatieri's agent says the veteran kicker has signed a three-year contract extension with the Indianapolis Colts.||||||| The 38-year-old Vinatieri is one of just seven players in league history to score 500 or more points with two different teams (Patriots, Colts). He is headed into his 15th NFL season. Vinatieri missed much of the 2009 season, but came back and played all 16 games last year, making 26 of 28 field-goal attempts.

Vinatieri had surgery on his right hip this week and is expected to be ready for the regular season. Vinatieri, one of the NFL's great clutch kickers, was treated by Dr. Marc Phillipon, who operated on Yankees star Alex Rodriguez.||||||| The Colts have not given a timetable on how much time Vinatieri may miss, other than to say he should be able to play in the opener Sept. 13 against Jacksonville.

Vinatieri scored what would be the game-winning field goal in the Colts' 18-15 win over the Patriots on Sunday.||||||| The 52-yarder was his longest since a 57-yarder at Chicago on Nov. 10, 2002. Vinatieri is 6-for-9 on field-goal attempts this season.
