It's not known how serious it is.
The Chicago Bears have agreed to a five-year contract with punter Adam Podlesh that makes him one of the highest-paid players at his position. ESPN first reported the deal, and his agent Richard Rosa confirmed it to the Associated Press on Thursday. He would not reveal terms, but did say it puts Podlesh in the top five among punters. He replaces Brad Maynard, whose contract expired after a 10-year run in Chicago.|||||||
Podlesh, who turns 28 next month, spent four years in Jacksonville. He was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in his salivary gland in 2009 but was a Pro Bowl alternate last season, averaging 43.8 yards per punt and landing 26 (45.6 percent) inside the 20-yard line.
The Jaguars placed Podlesh on injured reserve with a knee injury Tuesday.|||||||
Podlesh, a fourth-round draft pick in 2007, injured his right knee trying to make a tackle Sunday against Minnesota. He averaged 43.2 yards a punt, which ranked 22nd in the league. Jacksonville signed free agent Steve Weatherford to take Podlesh's place. Weatherford played two games with Kansas City this season after being claimed off waivers from New Orleans in October. His career average is 43.4.

The 23-year-old Podlesh was the first specialist taken in the draft and averaged 42.9 yards per kick at Maryland.
