The Bengals signed linebacker Aaron Maybin to a reserve/future contract on Friday.|||||||
Maybin, a 2009 first-round pick of Buffalo out of Penn State, has played for the Bills and Jets, leading the latter in sacks (six) and forced fumbles (four) in 2011. Maybin has appeared in 47 career games, and was released by the Jets Nov. 13 last year. He will count on Cincinnati's active list beginning Feb. 4.
Maybin has been waived by the New York Jets, a season after he led the team with six sacks. Maybin was unproductive this year, registering just one tackle without any sacks on a team desperate for a pass rushing presence. He was inactive for the Jets' game at Seattle on Sunday.|||||||
The disappointing 2009 first-round pick of the Buffalo Bills was signed by New York last season and revived his career. He was expected to have a larger role this season as an edge pass rusher, but failed to make an impact.
Maybin and Quinton Coples of the New York Jets have been fined by the NFL for separate hits on Indianapolis Colts rookie quarterback Andrew Luck last weekend.|||||||
Coples, the Jets' first-round pick, was fined $10,000 on Friday for grabbing the facemask of Luck, the No. 1 overall selection, in New York's 35-9 win Sunday. Maybin was fined $7,875 for "unnecessarily" striking Luck with his elbow after blocking him during an interception return by Antonio Cromartie. The penalty wiped out Cromartie's touchdown.
Maybin signed his one-year restricted free agent tender on Monday, as expected, and returned to the team after a breakout season.|||||||
The tender was worth $1.26 million, his original first-round draft level. Maybin was a first-round pick of Buffalo, No. 11 overall, in 2009 but struggled to get playing time in two disappointing seasons with the Bills. He was waived last August and signed by the Jets, but cut after training camp ended. New York re-signed him in late-September and Maybin ended up leading the Jets with the first six sacks of his NFL career.
The New York Jets have re-signed linebacker Aaron Maybin, hoping the former Buffalo Bills draft bust can boost their pass rush.|||||||
Maybin, a first-round pick of the Bills in 2009, was signed by the Jets in August and cut Sept. 4 after he made New York's initial 53-man roster. He failed to live up to his lofty draft position while in Buffalo, registering no sacks and never making it into the starting lineup. But Jets coach Rex Ryan repeatedly said he was excited about Maybin's speed and potential as a pass-rushing outside linebacker before they cut him.
