The Jacksonville Jaguars have released veteran and oft-injured defensive end Aaron Kampman. He was one of the league's elite pass rushers in his prime with the Packers, but tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee in 2009 and hasn't been the same since.|||||||
Kampman missed 28 games the last three seasons while playing for Jacksonville and Green Bay, including 13 last season. He sat out all of organized team activities last month while recovering from a second surgery on his right knee. With a salary near $5 million in 2012 and the addition of second-round draft pick Andre Branch, it became unlikely that Kampman would make the roster. Releasing him now gives Kampman a better chance to prove himself with another team.
Kampman is on crutches again after having surgery on his right knee for the second time in two years. Interim coach Mel Tucker says Kampman had "some work done to get some things cleaned up."|||||||
Kampman tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in practice on Nov. 11, 2010. His recovery was slower than expected, and he only played in three games this season before going on injured reserve for the third consecutive year.

He will be placed on injured reserve and have surgery at a later date. Kampman tore the ACL in his left knee last November and recovered in time to make an immediate impact this season. He leads the team with four sacks and 30 quarterback pressures.
Kampman, a two-time Pro Bowl defensive end who signed a four-year contract worth $26 million with Jacksonville, expects to be on the field when training camp begins in July and give his new team a much-needed boost to its pathetic pass rush.|||||||
Kampman spent the last eight seasons in Green Bay and emerged as one of the NFL's elite pass rushers while recording 37 sacks between 2006 and 2008. His productivity dipped last season because he didn't make a smooth transition to Green Bay's 3-4 defensive scheme that called for him to play outside linebacker. "I anticipate being ready to get after it," Kampman said Monday.
