Chargers (-3) vs. Chiefs (48)
We know what you’re thinking: Does this dolt not know the Chargers have lost eight in a row to the Chiefs? If it’s in fact a new dawn and a new day for the Bolts — and this dolt believes not only that it is but that the same can be said of the Chiefs ‘D’ — this should be a no-brainer. Philip Rivers is set to light up a Chiefs secondary destroyed by Chase Daniel in the regular-season dress rehearsal during the preseason, a unit Eric Berry (but not Marcus Peters) returns to for the first time after a yearlong layoff. Plus, bazooka-launching Pat Mahomes seems likely to receive a rude welcome from what could be the NFL’s premier playmaking ‘D’ this season.
Don’t hesitate: QB Philip Rivers, RB Melvin Gordon, WRs Keenan Allen and WR Tyrell Williams
Don’t think twice: WR Mike Williams, TE Antonio Gates
Don’t do it: WR Travis Benjamin, RB Austin Ekeler
Saints (-7 ½) vs. Buccaneers (52)
Tampa’s pass 'D' is bad until it isn’t, and the Saints' offense under Sean Payton and Drew Brees is good … perhaps for another decade if it somehow seamlessly transitions from Brees to Teddy Bridgewater. For now, since you already know that Alvin Kamara and Michael Thomas have the potential to pace their fantasy positions in scoring this season, never mind wreck the Bucs, can we interest you in Ben Watson, Cameron Meredith, Tre’Quan Smith and/or Mike Gillislee? In Vegas’ highest-projected scoring game of the week, each of them has at least some luster.
Don’t hesitate: QB Drew Brees, RB Alvin Kamara, WR Michael Thomas
Don’t think twice: RB Mike Gillislee, WR Cameron Meredith, WR Ted Ginn
Don’t do it (until we have more evidence): WR Tre’Quan Smith, TE Ben Watson
