27. New Orleans Saints — Georgia OL Isaiah Wynn
The Saints showed great patience in Round 1 a year ago, despite missing out on rumored targets Patrick Mahomes and Reuben Foster, “settling” for the best players on their board when they picked. Marshon Lattimore and Ryan Ramczyk, it turned out, worked pretty well.
If Jeff Ireland indeed is still running the scouting show, we could see them taking the same approach here (if they don’t trade up for a QB, let’s say) and go with Wynn, who could fill the utility role vacated by Senio Kelemete leaving, replace Andrus Peat at left guard, be tried as a center or play tackle in a pinch. Also, Peat and Larry Warford carry big cap hits the next two years.
An alternative pick here could be Arkansas C Frank Ragnow, whom they could groom to replace Max Unger ($8.7 million cap hit next year).
