Calvin Ridley, Alabama - Zero Receptions Inside The 10-Yard Line
Calvin Ridley is the best receiver in the 2018 draft by some margin, but that doesn’t mean his game doesn’t have warts. One of them is how little (and ineffective) he was in the red zone last season. In 2017, Ridley saw just five targets inside the 10-yard line and wasn’t able to haul in any of them. In fact, he caught a total of just four passes in the red zone this past season.
But before condemning Ridley, it’s fair to look at the Alabama passing attack and acknowledge their struggles at quarterback. Alabama pounded the rock inside the 20-yard line, rather than airing it out to their star receiver. Still, there is a concern about just how big of a weapon Ridley will be inside the 20 in the NFL. His lack of size may limit him some there (listed at just 6’1, 190 pounds), so it will be interesting to see if he can figure out a way to have success in the red zone at the next level.
