To be clear, the Cincinnati Bengals when healthy are a train wreck, and the M.A.S.H. unit the Bears faced Sunday was a severely watered down version of that.
Even allowing for the injuries Cincinnati suffered Monday night and was trying to overcome against the Bears, it would be stunning to see coach Marvin Lewis keep his job with the Bengals after this season.
But – and I really don’t mean to be harsh with the holidays upon us – that’s their problem.
Did the Bears do enough Sunday to save the jobs of coach John Fox and offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains?
No, absolutely not. That ship sailed several weeks ago.
But what the Bears did do is play their best and most complete game of the season when they easily could have been focused on warm-weather vacations and offseason plans.
Most significantly, this win was delivered by Mitch Trubisky (shown above), Jordan Howard, Tarik Cohen, Adam Shaheen, Akiem Hicks, Roy-Robertson Harris, Danny Trevathan, Christian Jones, Kyle Fuller and Eddie Jackson to name those who most popped off your TV screens at you, and every one of them is a young player the Bears can continue to build around going forward should they so choose.
