This past weekend we saw two of the top four teams go down and that changed the whole outlook for the College Football Playoff. No. 1 Georgia and No. 3 Notre Dame both lost on the road. Notre Dame’s loss to Miami (Fla.) was particularly tough because they aren’t in a conference; there is now no way the Irish can get to the Playoff. In fact, if they lose to Stanford in the season finale they could lose out on a spot in a top bowl game.
Georgia, on the other hand, still has a second chance. A win over Kentucky this week guarantees the Bulldogs a spot in the SEC Championship Game. Right now that looks like it will be against Alabama, but that is not a guarantee either. Alabama must play at Auburn on Nov. 25. The way Auburn handled Georgia, it’s no lock that Alabama wins the SEC West. Regardless of who Georgia plays, if they win the SEC Championship they will be in the Playoff.
