Looking at the play, the tackle was not cheap. In fact, it was an excellent open field tackle. Rodgers was on the move and was in a position to either pass or run when he got tackled. He happened to land on his shoulder and that’s when he got hurt.
It’s a tough loss for Green Bay but injuries like that happen in football. Just because Rodgers is one of the “chosen few” in the NFL does not mean we need to change the rules protecting quarterbacks even more. The rules as they are written now over protect the quarterback as it is, we don’t need more as it will just end up hurting the game.
Rodgers is one of the top players in the game and when he got hurt this rules talk started. I didn’t hear anything about rules changes last year when three Chicago Bears quarterbacks got injured. You can’t change rules for just a few players.
Rules governing practices and quarterbacks have hurt the game more than helped it. Because of the practice rule changes. players aren’t anywhere near as technique sound as they were six or seven years ago. There needs to be more live work done in practice not less. I don’t mean “live” 11 on 11, but rather live skill practice when techniques are perfected. This will help the game and lessen injuries.
