Rob Gronkowski nearly had a diving touchdown grab on the Patriots' second offensive series Thursday night, which would've salvaged for fantasy owners a disappointing 2-33 receiving debut. Fortunately for them (and Gronk), the drop-off from being covered by Eric Berry to the Saints secondary we'd imagine is like attending a party hosted by Bill Belichick after being a guest at a Gronk fiesta.
But you already know how Gronk versus the New Orleans 'D' is likely to end. As for some bigger surprises in our Week 2 TE rankings, we have Zach Ertz one spot ahead of the tight end he'll be across the field from, Travis Kelce. The only thing keeping Ertz from becoming an elite fantasy TE is a lack of touchdowns, not a Chiefs 'D' that just lost Berry. Kelce, meanwhile, draws a terrific Eagles safety tandem that helped keep the clamps on Jordan Reed last week.
Speaking of the perpetually hurt Reed, a report shortly before kickoff that he's battling a broken toe dashed our (naive) hopes he may finally turn a corner from a health standpoint. Fortunately, he cashed in on a monster deal already, unlike Jimmy Graham and Tyler Eifert, both off to rocky starts in contract years but staring at solid bounce-back opportunities.
