To play quarterback in the NFL, the player not only has to have talent but he has to have a very strong passion for and commitment to the game. By the nature of the position, the quarterback is the leader of the team and the face of the franchise. He has to have the strong work habits and leadership skills to run that club. Many NFL personnel executives believe Kaepernick lacks that passion right now. How important is the game to him? Is he a strong leader? Do teammates believe he is the guy who can win games for them? Too many believe the answers are no.
Since San Francisco and Kaepernick parted ways following the 2016 season, how are his game and his weaknesses improved? People I talk to around the league do not know what he has done to improve his weaknesses. There are many prospective NFL players out on the street looking for another chance in the league. All or most of these players are working out daily and working on their technique to be ready, if and when they get the call. They have their agents calling clubs on a daily basis to let clubs know they are ready.
Some have worked out for clubs and are on their short lists in case there is an injury.
While there have been some reports that Kaepernick is working to improve and be ready, too many teams aren't sure if he really is ready to play, or even wants to play.
