Former 49ers vice president of player personnel Scot McCloughan believed in Gore, and took him in Round 3. McCloughan himself isn’t even in the NFL currently, but he did a Twitter Q and A Wednesday night with fans. His favorite pick in his career? McCloughan chose Gore.
Gore laughed when he heard that fact, but he thinks he knows why the former executive might say that about him.
“Well, I love football. When you’ve been playing ball since 4 or 5 years old [like I have], that love is easy [to see],” Gore said. “God willing that love stays with me, I stay healthy, have a great year, reach those milestones and we can win that championship.”
The Colts are in a funny place, team-wise, with a franchise quarterback in place, but Andrew Luck has not thrown a football in about seven months. He remains on the PUP list — with no clear indication he’s coming off any day now. There are not many other established weapons outside of T.Y. Hilton and a few pass catchers. The offensive line is a work in progress. The defense is being rebuilt.
So does he really think he can smell a chance at a title in his career with this Colts team?
“Yes, yes I do,” Gore said. “A lot has to happen. But it can happen.”
