Top 10 free agents Minnesota Vikings must decide whether to re-sign

Will LT Matt Kalil's 2016 absence, and subsequent O-line deterioration, make Vikings' heart grow fonder?

LT Matt Kalil: He hasn't been consistent since 2012, when the fourth overall pick went to the Pro Bowl as a rookie. Yet, 2016, when Kalil went to injured reserve in Week Three with a balky hip, may have proved absence indeed makes the heart grow fonder. Left tackle was a turnstile — both for the Vikings and their foes — as Kalil, who started the first 66 games of his career and many of them at less than 100 percent, was sorely missed. He'll be 28 in July and still has special left-tackle traits, and the Vikings have voids on both edges, but they aren't likely to overspend on a player who's oft underachieved.
