Last season Gostkowski finished third in the NFL in field goals made and FG attempts. He converted 37 of 40 field goals and 45 of 47 PATs. He made good on all four of his attempts from 50 yards or more, including a career-best 62-yard blast -- the longest field goal made in the 2017 season. Gostkowski finished second in scoring with 156 points, just two points behind Greg Zuerlein of the Rams. In his 12 NFL seasons, he has converted 87.6 percent of his field goals, including 76.7 percent from 50-plus) and 99 percent of his extra points. Remarkably, Gostkowski went 10 full seasons and 165 consecutive games without missing a PAT. His first miss of a point-after came on October 23, 2016. Also, remarkably, Gostkowski won the NFL scoring title for four consecutive seasons, 2012-15. The last time he was not among the top eight in scoring was 2007, his second NFL season.
This is the format we have to work with, so we’ll split hairs. Gostkowski kicks in the inhospitable confines of Gillette Stadium in Foxboro. He is 34 and is two seasons removed from his career-best 2015.
If you draft Gostkowski, there’s a good chance you’ll have the most productive kicker in your league. Even in an “off” year, he’ll be among the top 10 kickers, and probably even the top five. There might not be a safer bet than Gostkowski in your entire fantasy draft. Of course, he’ll likely be the first kicker off the board, and many fantasy owners are reluctant to be the first to select a kicker. If you have no qualms about an early dip into the PK pool, you’ll likely be set for the season with Gostkowski.
