Boom
The third-round draft pick from Eastern Washington had a banner rookie season, leading all rookie wideouts in receptions and leading the Rams in targets and receiving yardage. Kupp played 76 percent of the Rams’ offensive snaps and demonstrated excellent hands and advanced route-running ability. He averaged a healthy 14.0 yards per catch and had 12 receptions of 20 yards or more. Lining up primarily in the slot, Kupp will usually avoid opponents’ top cornerbacks.
Bust
There are only so many targets to go around in a pass-catching corps that also includes WRs Brandin Cooks and Robert Woods, not to mention the team’s leader in receptions last year, RB Todd Gurley. After seeing 94 targets last year, Kupp probably won’t see many more this season, and he could see less. While Kupp got up to speed quickly in the NFL, he doesn’t have an extraordinary athletic profile and may already be close to maxed out on his potential.
Bottom Line
With two other good receivers on the Rams’ roster, Kupp’s ceiling is limited, but his mature skill set and his role in the offense give him a sturdy floor.
