With Bortles under center in 2017, the Jaguars made it all the way to the AFC championship game. They were a whisker from defeating the Patriots in that game and playing in Super Bowl LII. Bortles started every game for Jacksonville last year. In the regular season, he threw for 3,687 yards (11th in the NFL) and 21 touchdowns. He added 322 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. He threw for 300 or more yards in four games in 2017. In his best season (2015), he threw for 4,428 yards and 35 TDs. Bortles has started 61 consecutive regular-season games for the Jags. After being sacked 106 times in his first two NFL seasons, he has been sacked a total of just 58 times in the last two.
n 2017, his passage yardage and touchdown tosses decreased for the second consecutive season. Bortles has been remarkably inconsistent. Though he crested 300 yards four times last season, he threw for 160 or fewer yards in six games. In the playoff opener against Buffalo, he threw for 87 yards.
After the 2015 season, it seemed the Jaguars had an emerging star at quarterback. After producing disappointing stat totals for two consecutive seasons, itís starting to look like Bortles is a middling QB, at best. Jacksonville has built around its defense. Thatís not to suggest theyíve given up on Bortles. The upcoming season will go a long way in determining his NFL future. From a fantasy perspective, Bortles is an iffy proposition.
