Strong Points: Strong with thick frame. Instinctive. Physical in taking on blocks and shedding. Reacts quickly to the inside run and makes a number of plays. Good with his drops. Very aware in zone coverage and reacts well to the ball. 10 career interceptions. Consistent tackler.
Weak Points: Lacks play speed and range. Might be too heavy -- needs to get down under 240 pounds. Better vs the inside run than outside.
The Way We See It: Edwards, a very productive inside linebacker at Wisconsin, is a throwback defender with size, strength and between-the-tackles ruggedness. His play speed is only average, which will hurt Edwards at the next level in today's game built on speed. He is a very good coverage backer in short zones, showing top awareness and playing the ball very well with excellent hands. Overall, I like everything about Edwards but speed. He's too slow and lacking in range for many teams that run a 4-3 scheme, and even though he's best suited in a 3-4, he might be merely a two-down NFL linebacker. His combine will be very important in determining his draft slot.
