- AProjectionRound 1-2
- Hand9 ¾
- Arm32 ⅝
Strong Points: Very competitive -- plays with a great motor and goes snap to whistle on every play. Excellent instincts and reactions -- always knows where the ball is. Good-to-very good strength and power -- shows he can two-gap much bigger players. Impressive pass rusher with quickness, speed, power and moves. Redirects and put moves together. Plays the run well because of his instincts, hand use and strength. Very good in pursuit.
Weak Points: On the short side -- might not measure 6-2. Polite appears on tape to be a 4.70 guy because he is so quick but might not be quite that fast. No real experience in coverage. Missed five games in 2017 with a shoulder injury.
The Way We See It: I love watching the tape of Polite, who plays the game the way it is meant to be played. He is a tough, all-out competitor who plays with his hair on fire until the echo of the whistle. Polite might not have the natural physical traits of some edge defenders, but he is a better football player than most of them. He is always around the ball, playing strong at the point of attack, shedding quickly and making plays. Polite is a very good pass rusher who uses speed, quickness, moves and power to harass quarterbacks. He redirects adeptly and is advanced with his hand use. Polite is scheme-versatile, with the ability to play right end in a 4-3 or outside linebacker in a 3-4. His experience playing from a 2-point stance is a plus, though he hasn't dropped into coverage. His measurables will be important in where he gets drafted. His tape says Round 1, but if he is shorter than 6-2, he could fall to Round 2.
