Strong Points: Exceptional football character. Wills himself to be a good player. Has overcome numerous injuries to come back and play well. Strong leader. Team captain. Top instincts. Good-to-very-good athlete who plays at a high level of intensity. Very good in coverage (he entered college as a safety) with good ball skills. Effective when asked to blitz.
Weak Points: Has had numerous injuries, including two ACL surgeries. Broke his hand this year but played through it with a cast. Also played through a high ankle sprain this season. We doubt he can get much bigger.
The Way We See It: Tranquill is a scout favorite because of his rare work ethic and ability to overcome adversity. Came back from two separate ACL surgeries and continued to play well. Tranquill is a fifth-year senior who has already graduated. Came to Notre Dame as a safety but was switched to a "rover" position his sophomore year. Started three times as a freshman and tore his ACL in Game 11. Was moved to a "rover" position in 2015 as a sophomore but tore his ACL again in Game 3 and received a medical redshirt. Worked hard and came back to start every game in 2016 as a linebacker. Was a starter in each of the past two seasons. Two-time team co-captain.. Tranquill is best suited to play "Will" linebacker in a 4-3 at the NFL level. Can also be a hybrid linebacker because of his cover skills. Medical will be big because of all the injuries he's endured but should at least be a Day 3 selection. Has the ability to come in and start as a rookie in the right situation. The type of guy most coaches want on their team.
