Strong Points

Highly productive and instinctive. Double-digit tackles in 9 games in 2017. Good athlete with play speed, quickness and change of direction. Explosive and plays with strength and power. Stout at the point of attack and gets rid of blocks quickly. Has the play speed and range to stop the outside run and takes good angles to the ball. Quick with his pass drops and shows good awareness in coverage. Good ball skills.

Weak Points

Missed all but one game of the 2016 season with a foot/ankle injury. Ran slower than he plays at the combine and his jumps were average. Has a bit of tightness in his hips.

The Way We See It

A fourth-year junior, Sam missed all but a few series of the 2016 season because of a lower leg injury after having a breakout year in 2015. Had 98 total tackles in 2015, then came back from the injury to finish 2017 with 127 total tackles. Strong in every phase of the game. He's instinctive, strong, athletic and makes plays. Very strong tackler. Seldom out of position. Plays an aggressive game and is an explosive hitter. Good in coverage and plays the ball well. Christian was a late entry into the draft, and many did not have a lot on him. As good as he looked on tape, Sam's timed speed was disappointing. He did come back and have an excellent 3-cone, showing the quickness he plays with. The tape says he's a second-round player, but Sam might not go until the third because of his timed speed.
