Strong Points

Adequate size with the frame to gain 10 pounds. Tough. Super strong and competitive. Always looking to finish. Has good athletic ability; shows he can pull and get to the second level. Is explosive with snap through his hips. Has played some tackle in unbalanced line situations. Can be a very physical player. Alert in pass pro; shows good mirror ability and can anchor. Good hand use.

Weak Points

Plays like a guy with shorter arms. Doubt he can get bigger than about 315. Won't be able to play tackle at the next level.

The Way We See It

Smith was a three-year starter, mostly at right guard. Adequate size now and can get a bit bigger. Strong and tenacious, he aims to finish his man on every play. Has explosiveness through his hips on contact. Smooth and athletic in space, he has the ability to adjust on the move. Very reliable pass blocker who sets quickly, has the feet to mirror and stick with savvy rushers and the strength to anchor. Knows how to use his hands and keeps them inside. Reminiscent of Bears' 2016 second-rounder Cody Whitehair. May be able to play center. Should be able to start for most teams as a rookie; if he can play center his value increases.
